I want to be that bird on the rooftop
Looking down on her nest in the tree
I want to live a simpler life
Where everything seems to be free
I love everything that comes with this life
But why is it such a sacrifice
Just because we are a higher part of the chain
We have to do so much more
Oh what I’d do for just one day without the strain
I want to be that lover who can be found
Where she was before
I want to be that girl with the free spirit
Nothing can change her
But everything is going to take so much more from me
If I want to live this way
If I want everything I have
I’ve got to be more thankful
I’ve got to be more glad
I am not a bird on the rooftop
I can’t always take my family with me
It changes by day where I will be found
But I know I am one of many
Wherever I go it will not change
Who I am and try to be
I am so much stronger and love the life I have
I lead such a freer life
Than many before me.
